Throwback Thursday: I Saw God Today

I Saw God Today - An Experience I'll Never Forget SurrenderedMom.com

[I blogged about this experience exactly two years ago today, and I'm still in total awe! It has been one of the most impactful moments in my life, and I can remember each detail so vividly still to this day.]

I was leaving the grocery store heading back to cook dinner for our in-home Bible study we were hosting on Tuesday nights. I was in a rush, my mind totally consumed with the long to-do list I needed to get done to be prepared before our guests arrived.

As I was pulling out of the parking lot, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a homeless man with a sign. I originally passed him by being in such a hurry, but I felt a strong calling to turn around. It was like there was a whisper from within that kept saying, "Give him a 20 dollar bill." In the couple of minutes that it took me to turn around and get back to where he was, I kept questioning the amount. "Really, God? 20 dollars? Isn't that kind a lot? We're on a very tight budget and I don't have much money right now." But the calling became clearer and clearer, almost audible, and the amount was very specific. God wanted me to give this man 20 bucks.

As I handed the homeless man the bill, he looked at it and said, "Really? A 20 dollar bill?"  Then he broke down crying and said, "I've been praying all day, 'Lord, please just 20 dollars, just 20 dollars. All I need is just 20 dollars.'" Of course, at that point, I was crying too! I told him how I felt God was telling me to give him exactly 20 dollars and then I prayed for him and left.

This wasn't a coincidence, people. For him to be praying for a specific amount, and I felt such a strong urge to give him that specific amount of money....I'm in complete awe! God revealed himself to both me and the homeless man at that moment and it was incredible. I just cried all the way home, saying, "Thank you, Lord! Thank you!" I thought I was being a blessing to someone else, but it turns out it was just as much of a blessing for me.

God is real, folks. He answers prayer, and He even speaks to you if you just listen. God blessed both me and that man yesterday, and it was an experience that I won't soon forget.

34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ (Matthew 25:34-40) NKJV

Have you had one of those moments where God so clearly revealed Himself to you? Please, leave me a comment and let me know!
